The stress of completing your divorce agreement and adjusting to your single life can cause depression and anxiety. Sometimes, a decline in your mental health will affect your physical health, such as:

  • Changes in your eating habits
  • Increased consumption of alcohol or drugs
  • Struggles with insomnia
  • Higher blood pressure
  • A weakened immune system

It is important to take care of your health during and after your divorce. Unfortunately, people are currently limited in the activities they can do. You do not know when you will be able to join a fitness club or go to social gatherings. You may not even have the option of going to work, which would have given you something to focus your thoughts on. There are still several ways that you can improve your physical and mental health:

  1. Stay Physically Active: You may need to come up with creative ways to get exercise. Try walking or riding a bicycle, whether it is through your neighborhood or a park that is still open to the public. Find an exercise routine you can do at home with the objects you already have. A can of soup can be a replacement for using free weights.
  2. Keep in Contact with Friends and Family: Many parents are spending more time at home with their children out of necessity. If you know it is going to be several days before you see your children again, you can talk to your co-parent about scheduling a phone call or video chat with your children. It is also important to talk with other adults, whether they are family or friends. The internet provides multiple ways that you can socialize with others while staying at home.
  3. Go Easy on the Comfort Foods: People who are under stress may indulge in comfort foods as a way to enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, many comfort foods are high in fat, sugar, and carbohydrates. You do not have to cut out comfort foods but try to save them as an occasional treat instead of a staple of your diet.
  4. Create a Routine: When you have nowhere to go and no one to see, it seems less important to stick to an eating and sleeping schedule. Keeping up a normal routine will give you more energy to complete your other wellness goals.
